Category(s): Category:Elongated circular route shields (should have a sort key with four digits only, i.e. "0127" for File:Elongated circle 127.svg); the appropriate integer category
Additional notes: This request should make all of the missing three-digit markers in this style. It would also get w:User:NE2/KY list out of the error category, and prevent w:User:NE2/KY list 2 from appearing in the category if its content were no longer commented out.
The license should be {{PD-MUTCD}}. An example is availabe at File:Elongated circle 1173.svg. Imzadi 1979 → 06:10, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

- Thank you! Can you update the license templates? They should be using {{PD-MUTCD}}, not any other PD templates. We've been trying to more accurately deal with licensing, as we've started with COM:USRD/L. Eventually, we might want to have the bot run to mass replace licenses to the appropriate MUTCD-based ones.
- Second related note, but eventually we'll need a similar batch made for the missing numbers 1000–9999, which would use Series B for the typeface. Do I need to go through to make you a comma-delimited list of the missing numbers, or would it be enough to just say "1000-9999, skip the existing files"? Imzadi 1979 → 20:09, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- Regarding the template, I think it should be {{PD-ineligible}}. I had added a comment to the effect at Commons talk:WikiProject U.S. Roads#State highway markers and licensing. That argument aside, why {{PD-MUTCD}}? It is not federal and I cannot find it defined in that document.--Svgalbertian (talk) 21:51, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, my reasoning is like this. The circle marker is in the federal MUTCD. This is just the wider variant of that. It's the MUTCD that specifically makes these in the PD, even if they might be judged to be too simple for copyright by others. I would rather err on the side of caution and use the licensing situation that's most specific and explicit (in MUTCD = PD) over one that could be challenged (too simple = PD). Opinions on simplicity vary, and rather than argue, why not use the ironclad MUTCD license? Imzadi 1979 → 23:01, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

- It appears that in trying to list all of the missing files, 3 got left off the list and one was skipped by the bot. We still need 667, 832. 865, 869 from the above batch. I can do them manually if you'd prefer. Since it's so easy to miss a few in a 3-hour task to compile a list of what should have been 270 numbers while looking through 900 possibilities, I can only imagine how many we might miss trying to look through 9,000. Imzadi 1979 → 20:16, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- Regarding the missing files; below a thousand we were missing 119, 150, 460, 667, 832, 869. Between 0-6334 there are 4338 files missing with no files between 6335 and 9000. I have done the sub-1000 ones but is there really a demand to do the others? That over 7000 files to upload. --Svgalbertian (talk) 21:51, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- I've been creating, on average, about a dozen new files every few days as Kentucky junction lists are expanded. The state has thousands of state routes, and these are being added to junction lists. When the graphics are missing, the articles then appear in w:Category:Jct template errors or w:Category:Infobox road transclusions without route marker. If I don't catch them early, then someone watching those or other error categories post at w:WP:USRD/STF/R to request the missing graphics. The request above greatly reduced that burden by essentially eliminating 3dSRs from appearing, but we still have all of the missing 4dSRs left. Imzadi 1979 → 23:01, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- Regarding 4d KY state routes, we definitely do not need to do all numbers 1000-9999, or even up to 6334. It appears that most of the signed numbers are below 4000. What we should do is go through the Kentucky route log to find out which routes need shields. Dough4872 03:53, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
- I'd say do the ones up to 1000-6334. I'd like to meet the person who has the patience to go through all those pages to figure out what's needed. –Fredddie™ 03:55, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
- All numbers through 3529 have been used (as well as assorted ones through 3677), all of them since the early 1980s (except for a few that were apparently inadvertently skipped during the huge 1987 expansion). You can use w:User:NE2/KY list 3, w:User:NE2/KY list 4, etc. to make sure the bot hasn't missed any. 6000+ are mostly unsigned, and should be easy enough to make by hand for the few that aren't. PS: note that you'll need to use Series B instead. Also a very small number need to be shifted left or right to fit, and an even smaller number need kerning to fit. These can probably be fixed by hand. --NE2 (talk) 15:43, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Additional notes: The new sign format came into effect in 2013, see Design Bulletin #82/2013. Ideally I would like to move any conflicting signs to File:Alberta Highway XX (1970s).svg and upload the new signs as File:Alberta Highway XX.svg as to not break templates. However this might be controversial so I am seeking feedback. --Svgalbertian (talk) 17:35, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

- My bot lost its file mover status (link), so I created copies of the old signs and uploaded them to Category:Alberta Highway shields (1970s). The primary highway signs are now complete. I may or may not try to get file mover status before doing the secondary highway signs. --Svgalbertian (talk) 00:45, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
