Motivation

Postage stamps of the Korean Joseon Dynasty "denominated in cash coins" (文, mun), issued by the Corean Post (sic).

The reason why I started to look for postage stamps issued by the Manchu Qing Dynasty was because I was looking for "stamps denominated in cash coins". This is because Korea (Joseon) issued postage stamps "denominated in cash coins" (文, mun) during the 19th (nineteenth) century and I wondered if the Chinese did the same... They didn't. But as I like preserving Chinese history I decided to make this list 📃 page anyhow.

Personally I don't really collect postage stamps, I do own a number of stamps, but these aren't due to me actively purchasing them. I'd say that me importing images of stamps to Wikimedia Commons is akin to my earlier imports of Chinese numismatic charms and other Asian numismatic charms, all the Chinese numismatic charms that I own I either got as a gift 🎁 from someone else or I found on the ground, I wouldn't actively buy them, but I would actively document them and import images of them to Wikimedia Commons. And much like how Chinese numismatic charms are analogous to Chinese cash coins, Chinese postage stamps are analogous to Chinese banknotes.

The Japanese did issue postage stamps that were "denominated in cash coins" (文, mon), and I know that Vietnam didn't issue their own postage stamps until the period of French domination, and while the French did officially recognise cash coins (文, văn, "Sapèques") as a part of the currency system, usually at ¹⁄₅₀₀ French Indo-Chinese Piastre, but with a Tonkinese zinc coin being valued at ¹⁄₆₀₀ French Indo-Chinese Piastre during this era, they did not issue any postage stamps denominated in them. So while I did get an answer to the question "Did the Chinese ever issue postage stamps denominated in wén (文)?" In the form of "No", I found the opportunity to completely import these series to Wikimedia Commons for the preservation of Chinese culture.
