The (mis|ab)?use of historical in a category name
[edit]Sometime in our past someone used the word historical in a category name and that is problematic. Here is why its use should be avoided, unless you are using it as a proper noun. [And for use of historical, please consider the same logic and commentary applying to historic]
- Of, concerning, or in accordance with recorded history, (particularly) as opposed to legends, myths, and fictions.
- Of, concerning, or in accordance with the past generally.
- Of, concerning, or in accordance with the scholarly discipline of history.

[edit]What are you saying about the building? It is an old building? It is a notable building? It is a building with a history? It is a building that has a history written about it? It is a building where historic events took place in it, around it, for it?
What does a "Category:Historic building" have?
=a photograph/image
[edit]What is a "historic image of ..."?
Is it just an old image? An image that shows history? An image that itself is notable for some specific
When can the term be used?
[edit]- Proper noun, eg. "Royal Historical Society
- When there is a current item in a chain of previous editions, the current uses/editions, compared with the historical uses and editions, where they differ; eg. a place has their fifteenth version of a flag, all previous versions no longer in use are historical
