  • I installed VisualFileChange late last month. It is a really neat bit of software for getting rid of all of the crap that gets uploaded to Commons. Alan Liefting (talk) 20:02, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Speaking of crap I have spent the few weeks or so tidying up Category:Israel. It had up to about 2000 files in it at one point and a country category should have very few if any files in it. Initially I just removed the category from something like 1500 files but User:Geagea didn't like that. S/he took me to COM:AN/U and another editor put forward a good recommendation for diffusing the category. Geagea did not like that, which involved putting them in a holding category, and promptly moved them back to Category:Israel. Geagea also did not like me moving some of them to Category:Unidentified locations in Israel and reported me to COM:AN/I again. I started going through the files and I ended up putting lots of them up for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Israel. Most of them were from Geagea. As of today Category:Israel is down to 31 files and all of those are up for deletion.
Given the behaviour that I have seen from Geagea I am surprised the s/he is allowed to be an administrator. Alan Liefting (talk) 20:02, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Based on the many deletion reviews that I have seen I have now coined the phase of "Culture of Keep" given that there is all sorts of digital detritus that is kept. Alan Liefting (talk) 20:02, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Do we really need this image?
  • Given the high number of deletions per day (note to self - carry on trying to get stats on uploads vs deletions) we really have to make it make it harder for editors to upload unsuitable files. Alan Liefting (talk) 20:02, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Sorry, one last thing for today my dear Diary. I just noticed this again. I should change the default signature so there are two dashes in front of it. Looks better that way. Alan Liefting (talk) 20:02, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Is there a way of checking success of my DRs like there is on Wikipedia? The red links on this search gives some idea. Alan Liefting (talk) 09:23, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Getting less impressed with admins. And with the quality of debate by some editors. Alan Liefting (talk) 09:23, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
  • A discussion I am having at present has suddenly reminds me of the people from the B Ark in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy when they are on Earth at a time that pre-dates the evolution of humanoids. Alan Liefting (talk) 19:34, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

  • I sort of stumbled over my account here and I thought I would have a bit of a poke around for old times sake. It doesn't look like things have improved. Same old shit. The same old problems not getting addressed. It is a real shame that the community are lording over such a poor qulaity resource. Alan Liefting (talk) 22:58, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
Turns out that User:Gingghiskhan, the editor who put the page up for deletion, is a globally banned editor. He (and it is almost certainly a he) must be a really bad bugger. -- Alan Liefting (talk) 20:49, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

  • I came across User:Shizhao who uploads huge number of images from panaramio. A lot of them end up getting deleted or are duplicates of existing content. What a waste of time! There is plenty of stuff that need doing other than chasing after automated or semi-automated edits. -- (talk) 22:45, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
I complained about it and there is no interest in sorting it out. -- (talk) 08:07, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
  • So there is a bot that upload huge number of images from panaramio. A lot of them are badly categorised. I sometimes use Cat-a-Lot to get them out of the categories high in the hierarchy. Some editors don't like that and go crying off to the admin noticeboard saying I am removing categories. Can't get any decent work done here. This place is as bad as Wikipedia. -- (talk) 03:27, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

  • I briefly dipped into editing mode because when I was trying to find an image for my website I came across some stuff that needed tidying up. And the I found some more. And yet more. This place is still one hell of a mess! There is staggering 50 million files but quantity is no good without quality! Alan Liefting (talk) 05:19, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
