GFDL

Shouldn't this license tag also include that any text taken from Wikipedia is licensed under GFDL and not Creative Commons, or has the Wikimedia Foundation decided they will also release any text from Wikipedia used in these images free from the GFDL into the less restrictive Creative Commons license? The Wikimedia Foundation has no right to release the text under CC-BY-SA, as they do not hold copyright. I have pointed this issue out to Greg Williams in the past (e.g. at Image_talk:Redshirt_comic.jpg#License). I am sympathetic to his point that CC was recommended by "The Office", that GFDL and CC are similar, and he frankly doesn't want to worry about legal issues. But none of those arguments really hold water legally. There's also the possibility of fair use, since the text fragments are small (compared to the articles they came from). However, I find this a bit dubious, as the text is still integral to the cartoon. Superm401 - Talk 10:41, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

{{Edit request}} (I know it isn't protected and I can edit it, but I can't edit it correctly to my satisfaction.) Can anybody update this template in regards to that WMF has release the logo under CC BY-SA 3.0 (and trademarked)? I don't really know how to "do it" correctly.  Done, added a link to the globe's filedesc page. When reusing the cartoons themselves, no logo attribution is required anyway as it's de minimis on them. Please only use protected edit requests for requesting edits to protected pages, for all other cases just use the talkpage without it or post on the village pump.    FDMS  4    01:17, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
