Shortcut inflations are almost always an indication of POV pushing, please limit it to two shortcuts, I don't care which of the three. –Be..anyone (talk) 15:37, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshot. Also lots of empty space. Ping User:Be..anyone.    FDMS  4    21:42, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't ready when you saw it, I had to check mw:Extension:InputBox. –Be..anyone (talk) 21:44, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Be..anyone: I forgot to mention people might think they can search all proposals (COM:RFC subpages, …) using the inputbox.    FDMS  4    21:50, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Second confusing proposals search removed, "all of VP" automatically covers it. –Be..anyone (talk) 22:05, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit conflict (yes, started typing this a long time ago)] @Be..anyone: This is getting old: It is floating, even with very low screen resolutions. Also, archiving info isn't must read. However, another compromise: What do you think about the layout (inputbox, header and discuss menu position) of Template:Village pump/Copyright/Header?    FDMS  4    22:24, 9 March 2015 (UTC) All of VP makes the search results less accurate, I'd therefore rather replace the inputbox by a proposal section-only one; see the other header.[reply]

Sorry, starting SkyDrive would take me an hour at the moment, and whatever it will show me can't beat Chrome, where a "double search table" ends up below the "discussion menu".
But you found the place why I tried 200px for the menu some weeks ago, until it broke your browser... ;-) The archive info is a relevant part of the header, it tells folks where their contribution likely is after it apparently vanished. They should see the ToC and the info at the same time, and if what they are looking for is gone, they'll need the search. Maybe they confused VP / VPC / VPP, and are upset about their own stupidity, or is that really only me? –Be..anyone (talk) 22:50, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Be..anyone, du nervst! :) Seriously, us two are apparently the only users caring quite a bit about template layouts, so why can't we just always have the same opinion? Contact me offwiki to arrange a secret deal. :) To address your points:
  • Are we talking about browser compatibility, or (my guess) Be..anyone's-extremely-uncommon-display-settings compatibility?
  • So, do you like COM:VP/C's header or not?
  • "Please note" is to be understood as "Please read before posting". The archive location is meta-information as "after a few days, check what happened to your thread" is not how discussions work.
  • Yes, that's really only you, it says "[proposals/copyright] section" all over the header, including the inputbox.

The VP/C header is very good, better than everything what we have or had here this year or longer. Archival after 14 days is notable, I hope that the failed "global ban opt-out" proposal will be archived "soon", it had its 30 days of inactivity. Maybe update 14 while you are at it, IIRC the RFC-inactivity timeout is 30 days.
I tested all widths from "minimal" (= search boxes forced to flip below the menu) to full at 150%, and 1920@150 should be like 1280@100. I rather doubt that anybody reads instructions in the header or the menu, see Help talk:Contents for an extreme example.:tongue:Be..anyone (talk) 23:58, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Another OneDrive link to a screenshot – also works with Chrome and lowres settings. However, let's just use Template:Village pump/Copyright/Header's layout, which only works with the archive link and inputbox being part of the introduction. Fine with that, Be..anyone? If you want to increase the archive timeout time, please establish consensus on the section's talkpage first. BTW, the failed RFC is already archived, but I had to manually archive the subsection you removed from it. Please edit more attentively.    FDMS  4    00:27, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Be..anyone: My last 2 screenshots were of Special:PermaLink/152624385.    FDMS  4    01:06, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The problem wasn't your picture, the problem was Onedrive, and Google docs wouldn't be better… Nevermind, I've now seen that it works for you, so now it's my turn to show when it doesn't work for me at 100%, uploaded here.
There is a "full" consensus if you agree with 30 days for the archive bot, because nobody else here cares about the details in "new" (vintage 2011) inventions by Rd232 like VP/P or {{Cent}}. –Be..anyone (talk) 01:16, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Be..anyone: I know, but you have photographed the wrong revision. It would be a lot more convenient for me to eMail you screenshots. Archiving done. Please answer my question: Are you fine with using Template:Village pump/Copyright/Header's layout?    FDMS  4    01:25, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The VP/C looks very good for me, yes, see above. And if you put the search above ToC + "discussion menu" sidebar with icons as buttons (instead of text) there should be even enough horizontal space for two search boxes all in one long row. Your watchlist seems to work, my watchlist also seems to work, no additional "ping" required, there is no deadline. –Be..anyone (talk) 01:49, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is a deadline, I don't want your version to get marked for translation.  Doing…    FDMS  4    01:56, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done. My last change includes two suggested changes, including the discussion in the community tabs div (like on the AN) and adding an additional line between the "Please note" section and the TOC. If the inputbox width is below your maximal value, feel free to increase it.    FDMS  4    02:25, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Something is wrong, there is a list of languages at the bottom, and the test section header is not shown (visible in the ToC, but not above "Lorem" as expected.) The search boxes with 25em instead 36em should work for most folks. If you expect a translation admin before May try a dummy {{Edit request}}.:-)Be..anyone (talk) 03:17, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Everything seems fine – I moved the <languages /> to the bottom for spacing test purposes, and can see the Lorem text exactly two times. As for the width, the inputboxes now read "Search all Village pump archiv" and "Search the proposal section ar".    FDMS  4    04:17, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Revert to last known good version 2015-01-13, the outside of all header tables verification line was inside something. –Be..anyone (talk) 05:08, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed, there is a required </div> at the end not matching any obvious open <div>, no idea where that comes from. –Be..anyone (talk) 06:12, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, seriously, please. I already told you that I have intentionally removed that </div> to include the discussions in the community tabs div as it is currently the case on all ANs. FYI.    FDMS  4    11:00, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever other pages due, the page itself MUST NOT be a part of its own header. It works as it should on VP, VP/C, VP/P, and the help desk. It's broken on UH, AN, ANV, and AN/U. –Be..anyone (talk) 17:40, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, so keep it as it is. Note that AN discussions were intentionally made part (not by me) of the community tab (intentional singular), of which the header is only a part of. It's not broken, so please DO NOT fix it without establishing clear consensus on the talkpage first.    FDMS  4    17:53, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Big box

[edit]
