Any means incl. 4.0

[edit]

Hey! I just noticed that the template does not include 4.0. If it truely is "any" then it should also include 4.0. We could perhaps just change the template to link to {{Cc-by-sa-any}}. MGA73 (talk) 13:13, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do we know how this template usually comes about, for instance in files like File:Vingåkersån med småbåtshamnen.jpg? I would be very careful before changing the current license on any files; if when the license tag was applied CC-BY-SA 4.0 did not exist yet, did the tagger really agree to license it under CC-BY-SA 4.0?
Since CC licenses are considered irrevocable, I thought it safer to revert for now before a re-user may rely on a license the copyright holder has not actually agreed with.
Of course, that is completely independent of renaming the template for future use, however that is best accomplished. Felix QW (talk) 15:05, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On closer review, it seems like the original version of the template until 11 June 2013 did include "any later version", but later ones do not. So it sounds like one could go ahead with this change, but should check any tags after 11 June 2013 that they did indeed result from imports from Wikivoyage that were tagged with the corresponding template there, and that the corresponding template did still include the "any later version" clause. If anyone would like to use {{Cc-by-sa-3.0,2.5,2.0,1.0}} they should not add a template called "any" :-) I think the reason someone added that {{Cc-by-sa-3.0,2.5,2.0,1.0}} is because at that time it was all the versions that existed at that time. Also the template is not a standard Commons template. It is used for imported files. On Commons we would add {{Self|GFDL|Cc-by-sa-any}} if we wanted to license our files this way. --MGA73 (talk) 16:10, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
