@虹易: Hi, wouldn't be better to categorize the files in "YEAR books from China"? So we can create the relative categories afterwards. I suppose that all the books using that template are published in China, right? --Ruthven (msg) 13:01, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ruthven: Hi! I think it is rational to assume so. But what is "YEAR books from China"? Yearbook or something else? 虹易 (talk) 03:40, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@虹易 Hello, no, it's not yearbook :) I was talking about all the categories in Category:Books from China by year. Ruthven (msg) 07:37, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ruthven: That's great! But I am afraid we do not know the exact publish years of those ancient books. For example, the publish time noted in File:NLC892-000100231-82751_普濟方_第241冊.pdf, Qianlong Period of Qing Dynasty (清乾隆[1736-1795]), is an estimated range. It is a general case for Chinese ancient books. 虹易 (talk) 08:18, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@虹易 I see. The issue is that the (automated) category is very general. All those books are destined to go in sub-categories; that's why I wanted to avoid an automatic categorization or I wanted to make it more precise.
Take this example: File:NLC892-001933735-315108 小學考 五十卷 第15冊.pdf. The line 出版发行项 is used to categorize the book in "1888 books", when it should be "1888 books from China". Ruthven (msg) 14:58, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ruthven: That categorizing rule was added in Special:Diff/848830737 by GZWDer, which I notice right now. I am adding the suffix "from China". Thank you for your suggestion!虹易 (talk) 02:39, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@虹易 OK, that's what I wanted to do. Now we have to create such categories. I'll have a look at that. Just noticed that PencakeBot created them today. Cool! Ruthven (msg) 15:16, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
