Template talk:De minimis
i18n of the template and enhancement
[edit]I prepared the i18n for this template. Example:
Warning: One or more elements in this file are protected by copyright
Some parts of this file are not fully free but believed to be de minimis for this work. Derivatives of this file which focus more on the non-free element(s) may not qualify as de minimis and may be copyright violations. As a direct consequence, cropped versions of this file may require a review of their copyright status. |
I rewrote it to looks like the No-FoP template, as the case it similar.
I am for deprecating and removing the 'reason' parameter:
- It is not translatable easily.
- this template is not here to justify the DM rationale but to inform the reuser.
I added a parameter for a link a possible DR in case the DM was previously discussed and the file kept. Categorisation in Category:De minimis without reason should also be removed. Esby (talk) 11:34, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- The reason is translatable via {{LangSwitch}} or {{En}}, {{De}} etc, isn't it? Rd232 (talk) 12:25, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- That supposes you translate every reason used for each file. That still does not make the file 'verified' or 'safe' for the re-user. Imo, problematic cases are to be handled via DR, not by a reason parameter. Esby (talk) 13:19, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- Also most of the reason argument could be formulated in most cases as 'copyrighted element is not the subject of the photography, placement is incidental etc.' Esby (talk) 13:24, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- I activated the i18n and kept the reason parameter. Esby (talk) 23:30, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- The reason parameter doesn't seem to work at the moment. If it's going to be removed, where's the consensus discussion and why is it still documented at de minimis/doc? Thanks. -- Trevj (talk) 10:13, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- it should work, gonna check the code. Esby (talk) 10:27, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Fixed it, named parameters must be passed as numbered parameters with autotranslate. Gonna adjust the documentation. Esby (talk) 10:51, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Brilliant! Thanks very much. -- Trevj (talk) 15:04, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Layout update
[edit]@Esby, Rd232, and Trevj: Hi there! I refreshed this template a little, so everything takes less place and it's more illustrative:
- the box width is 100%
- there's no <br /> after every sentence
- I also added an image (from COM:De minimis) with poster marked with (c) symbol
Cheers! --Rezonansowy (talk) 22:17, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
Remove <code>
tags
[edit]There is no good reason why this template should use <code>
for its parameter output. This violates HTML semantics. 80.221.159.67 08:24, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
Another paragraph
[edit]Is it possible to add an option to enter a second paragraph? The "See also:" and "The reason given:" options look really forced and unprofessional. I just want to add a second paragraph to be able to add "The reason X is copyrighted is Y, more information can be found at Z.". - Alexis Jazz 04:52, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
- Fixed (some time ago). - Alexis Jazz ping plz 06:08, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
Question
[edit]Why isn't there a similar template for saying that certain small parts of a image under a free but non-PD license (e.g. CC-BY or GFDL) are PD-USGov, and therefore the image might become PD-USGov if you crop it? KATMAKROFAN (talk) 22:54, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- Does that happen a lot?
IIt (typo) wouldn't be really needed. De minimis is needed to warn a user that when cropping the license may no longer be valid. That's no issue if you crop a USGov piece out of something. - Alexis Jazz 23:31, 28 March 2018 (UTC)- US law overrules most licenses, including CC-BY, CC-BY-SA, all forms of the BSD License, GPL, LGPL, and GFDL. KATMAKROFAN (talk) 00:29, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
- Probably, but because PD-USGov is more permissive than any of those the user doesn't need to be warned about that. There is also no template to tell people a small part of an image is regular PD or CC0 when the whole picture is CC-BY-SA. You can make a mention of this in the permission field if you like. If you are planning on (and have good reason to) add such a mention to hundreds of pictures a template can be made. Are you? - Alexis Jazz 07:58, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Edit request
[edit]{{Edit request}} change {{#if:{{{reason|}}}|| without reason}} to {{#if:{{{1|{{{reason|}}}}}}|| without reason}} Because that's all you really want in that category. DM declarations that specify nothing. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 06:08, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
- When I previewed the changes the following text appears below the template
{{iffile|[[Category:De minimis
. Make the needed chages and preview them in this sandbox using the "Preview page with this template" on a file. Thank you for you efforts in fixing the template. MorganKevinJ(talk) 00:36, 16 February 2019 (UTC) - Done Alexis just forgot the ending ]]}}. Easy fix. --Majora (talk) 23:10, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
