This is the English translation of the Picture of the day description page from 9 December 2010.
Molybdenum (Mo, atomic number 42). The ebeam remelted macro crystalline fragment of this silvery metal has a purity of 99.99 % ("4N"). For comparison, a high purity single crystalline (99.999 % = 5N) 1 cm3 molybdenum cube. The metal was discovered by Carl Wilhelm Scheele in 1778.
