Billboard failed to renew the copyrights of early issues. A search of the renewals for periodicals for entries for Billboard reveals that the publisher, Billboard Media Group, started renewing the copyrights of Billboard magazine starting with the issue published on October 7, 1939. Therefore, issues that were published before October 7, 1939 are in the public domain. The copyright on this issue of Billboard magazine was not renewed and it is in the public domain. |
This work is in the public domain because it was published in the United States between 1929 and 1963, and although there may or may not have been a copyright notice, the copyright was not renewed. For further explanation, see Commons:Hirtle chart and the copyright renewal logs.
