Categories need parent categories
[edit]Thank you for creating a new category or categories. When creating new categories, please try to include one or more parent categories:
- All categories should be a subcategory of another category.
- For categories about specific people, this would generally include
[[Category:People by name]] - See Commons:Categories, especially How to create a new category.
Categories that lack parent categories may appear on:
Please make sure your categories aren't in this report by adding at least one category to them.

Template documentation
Purpose
[edit]Talk page message for users creating categories without making them subcategories of other categories.
Used to inform users which appear on one of the two mentioned reports. Optionally, you can mention a particular category they created incorrectly.
The message being substituted, it can be edited to improve for future uses without effecting already existing signed messages on user talk pages.
Sample use (on user talk pages)
