Wrong genus? This check-list says that it's in the genus Ornithoptera, and a subspecie (variation) of Ornithoptera priamus

  • Ornithoptera priamus (Linnaeus, 1758)
    • - akakeae Kobayashi & Koiwaya, 1978
    • - allotei (Rothschild, 1914)
    • - euphorion (Gray, [1853])

I saw the different name in the English wikipedia and tried to find out which one is 'correct' - I didn't come to a solution, as both names are used - eg. barcoding life seems to be quite credible as a source and they use Troides euphorion...

Well, both exist currently; we need to merge them. There's a lot of back and forth between these two genera. Some sources treat them as one[1], but usually both are used. It's also treated as Ornithoptera priamus euphorion by more than one source. Let's go with Ornithoptera for now since that seems the most inline with whatever classification we're using for the rest of Ornithoptera/Troides (it's also what en.wp uses). The important thing is to not separate the content between synonymous categories. Rocket000 (talk) 15:29, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
