Transcription

I just came across these guidelines for photos of historical markers -- they're very good and I'll try to follow them going forward. I also wanted to propose one more for consideration: transcription. Whenever I upload such photos, I include a verbatim transcription of the marker's text as a blockquote within the description (example). I've always felt that doing this, even in cases where the photo is clear and legible, is a helpful thing since it provides a means for foreign-language users to easily translate the text, say via Babelfish. It also allows surfers to see the photo in Google search results when they enter keywords within the marker's text. Huwmanbeing ☀★ 20:55, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
