La traduzione "Street of panic" del cartello "Vicolo del panico" in

FIRENZE / City

è sbagliata. Il termine si pronuncia "panìco" con l'accento sulla "i" e non "pànico" (accento sulla "a") e si riferisce ai piccoli semi "panic grass" o "panic seeds" usati come cibo per gli uccelli, che venivano venduti sul luogo.

The english translation of the panel "Vicolo del panico" to "Street of panic" in

FIRENZE / City

is wrong. The word is "panìco" (with accent on the "i"), not "pànico" (accent on the "a") and refers to the "panic grass / seeds", which where sold there as food for birds.

--- Please go to http://www.vocabolario.com and submit "panico" da (from) "Italiano" a (to) "Inglese"; check the box "Tutti i termini" (all words) and click "Traduci" (translate). You will get "erba di panico" = panic grass". No accent is used, since in Italian it is only put when on the last character (vocal).

Proposal 1

I propose for Italian city category names to leave the italian, the german ( see south tyrol) , the french (see valle d'aosta) names for the cities. Then subcategories, can be called with the city name+the english attribute to make the clear the path from the root to the city+subject name (i.e from churches to churches of firenze). Alternativly we can use churches of florence althought it descend from firenze. This to start talking. --mac 15:18, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

I checked the 4 towns in Category:Churches of Bavaria by city :

• Landshut and Regensburg are both English and Deutsch names;
• Category:München infringes the rule (Munich in English);
• Category:Nuremberg, Germany respects the rule (Nürnberg in Deutsch), in spite of useless disambiguation.

I think that the rule is generally respected, with few exceptions which does not contest it. As these exceptions makes permanent incoherences, they must be wiped out. --Juiced lemon 16:14, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Articles and category names

Because Commons is an international project, the Commons:Language policy says: categories are in English, because it is international language.

So the category name Firenze infringes the rule, and we must rename it Category:Florence. We cannot have a category Firenze with subcategories Objects of/in Florence. More, the lists of cities in upper categories must be in English.

There is an extra issue in this category, because important subcategories are missing. Example: Category:Maps of Florence, because the map images are in a gallery. As many articles have an italian name, the category contents are near incomprehensible for non italian-speaking readers. So, some necessary subcategories have to be created. Example: Category:Money of Florence for the article Monete di Firenze. --Juiced lemon 15:32, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
