Stamps of Antioquia
Antioquia State was one of the states of Colombia. Today the area of the former state makes up most of modern day Antioquia Department, Colombia. Antioquia issued own stamps from 1868 to 1904.
The 12 Departments of Colombia constituted in 1819 split in 1831 to form three republics:
- New Grenade
- Equador
- Venezuela.
The Departments of the New Grenade were Cundinamarca, Cauca, Isthme (Panama), Magdalena and Boyaca.
The CUNDINAMARCA department was divided in 4 provinces: Bogota (capital: Santa-Fé-de-Bogota), Antioquia (Santa-Fé-de-Antioquia), Mariquita and Neyba.
Sovereign State of Antioquia
[edit]The Sovereign State of Antioquia was an administrative and territorial division of the United States of Colombia. The territorial entity created on June 11, 1856 with the name Federal State of Antioquia, was officially recognized as a State of the Granadine Confederation in the national constitution of 1858. It was finally called Sovereign in the national constitution of 1863.
