The Old Portal de Mercaderes is a collective name for the commercial buildings on the west side of the Mexico City main plaza, called the Zocalo. This area has always been used for commerce and for several centuries, it was dominated by an arcade that ran the entire side. Today the business here are mostly fine jewelry stores and two upscale hotels.
