It's all about freedom All users of files found on Wikimedia Commons must be given the Four Freedoms: The freedom to use and perform the work. The freedom to study the work and apply the information. The freedom to redistribute copies. The freedom to create and distribute derivative works. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web are copyrighted and not permitted here. Please only upload files that either are in the public domain in the source country (author died more than 70 years ago) and in the U.S., or that are explicitly covered by a licence which grants the Four Freedoms. See the list of acceptable licences. Also, please only upload useful files; Wikimedia Commons are for educational or informational content. For works which are your own, please use the form for uploading your own works.

Describing your uploads Please Sort your files after upload and give detailed information. See our First Steps for a brief overview of the process. Please fill in the variables in the summary form: {{Information |Description= |Source= |Date= |Author= |Permission= |other_versions= }} Description of the content; also use a descriptive and concise filename without special characters. Source like a web link or give a statement like "own work". Date of creation or publication if the former is unknown. Author(s) of the file. Permission - quote of the author's permission. If you are not the author you must forward the author's permission to permissions-commons at wikimedia.org. In any case you must select the appropriate licence in the dropdown box or add one below the summary. optionally: other_versions given via a wikilink; can be left out. Quick help Click on the buttons (or the [?] links) to pop-up a help text for the corresponding input field. If you need multi-line input fields for the source and author information, click the button to the right of the fields. To add more descriptions in other languages, click the button below the last description field. Select the language in the drop-down menu to the left. If you select a license in the drop-down menu, a button (normally ) appears to preview the chosen license. Pop-ups can be closed by clicking their close button , by clicking again the button that opened them, or by hitting the Esc-key. To see how the description of the file will look after the upload, click the "Preview" button. This will not upload the image yet. You do not need to add an {{Information}} template; the form will construct one for you. If you already have an {{Information}} template or similar template ready to copy/paste, use the basic upload form. To always use the old basic form layout uncheck "ImprovedUploadForm" on the "Gadgets" tab of your preferences.

If you do not provide suitable licence and source information, your upload will be deleted without further notice. Thank you for your understanding.
