Below is a gallery of prominent Lakes of Poland (Polish: Polskie jeziora) categorized by 16 administrative regions called voivodeships. With almost ten thousand closed bodies of water covering more than 1 hectare (2.47 acres) each, Poland has one of the highest numbers of lakes in the world. In Europe, only Finland has a greater density of lakes.[1] The selected lakes are named in the Polish language for each region.

Due in part to historical circumstances, which included a limited access to the sea and travel during foreign domination, Polish people consider vacationing on the lake a prime destination, with 95% of the respondents of PBS survey planning it for the summer months. Some 87% of Poles spend vacation in the presence of family members, and in the opinion of 34% of them, Polish lakes are for Poland what the pyramids are for Egypt.[2]
