Isle of Man Post Office gold postbox for Peter Kennaugh

English: Mirroring the practice of the Royal Mail for their postboxes in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man Post Office painted one of their own postboxes 54°10′26.67″N 4°27′20.12″W gold in honour of the Isle of Man born Team GB 2012 Summer Olympics gold medalist Peter Kennaugh, who was part of the four man team that won the Cycling Men's Team Pursuit event on 3 August at the London velodrome.

The box chosen was No.32, a King George V pillar box at Kirk Onchan Post Office in the village of Onchan. The box is Type D, which mirror the oval shape of the Type C but incorporating a stamp dispenser, meaning it only has one letter opening in the end, rather than two in the side. Unlike the Royal Mail boxes, which were painted allover gold with a black base, the Onchan box additionally had its lettering finished in black.

Kirk Onchan Post Office is at the corner of Main Road (the A2) and Kelvin Road, sitting on the south side of the Main Road and the east side of Kelvin Road. The box sits on the concrete apron outside the post office on this corner, but inside the pavement that runs around it. The box is orientated so that its single opening faces north, ie across Main Road.
