Help:Files

Files are anything uploaded to Wikimedia Commons in a number of different formats. Files may be pictures, text, video or audio. They all begin with "File:" indicating that they are in the file namespace.

Contrast this with pages which contain text written by editors and usually link to files.

File history

Each page in the file namespace includes a version history of the file, similar to Mediawiki's history pages.
