Others countries

[edit]

Saudi Arabia [1] adopted the plain packacking.--Aréat (talk) 03:09, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Sorry for the delay. Ydecreux (talk) 20:24, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hungary

[edit]

@Ydecreux: Hello, Hungary passed a law as well, although it won't be until 2023 that retailer will have to follow. Thanks for your work. ;) 1 --Aréat (talk) 12:46, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Aréat: Not a law, as far as I know, only a decree. On this map, countries in pink are those with a law passed that stipulates date of entry into force (at importer/producer or retailer level), and countries in red are those where the measure is already in force at retailer level. Hungary does not belong to either category. Ydecreux (talk) 17:34, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Why make a difference whether it's a law or decree? The point of the map is to how which countries use Plain Packaging or not. Isn't it? --Aréat (talk) 18:23, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Technically, Hungary does not use plain packaging, and the initial map refered to a law; but this is not the main reason.
The actual reason is that laws are more likely to be followed by actual implementation. Then come decrees, decisions by the Council of Ministers, announcement in the press, etc.
Hungary had already passed a decree, but implementation was postponed by three years; that could be easily done because it was only a decree. Burkina Faso passed a decree, that was never implemented. Uruguay passed a decree last year, but BAT successfully appealed against it. So far, I have not seen any case of implementation following a simple decree, and I have seen three cases of decrees having no impact (maybe Hungary will eventually implement). By contrast, all laws have been implemented on time.

Thanks for the explanation. That sound reasonable. --Aréat (talk) 10:46, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Netherlands

[edit]

It seem Netherlands have passed a law for it to be implement on first of July 2020. :) --Aréat (talk) 10:55, 2 August 2019 (UTC) [2] --Aréat (talk) 10:57, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I am looking for more information, to be sure that it is more than just a bill to be submitted to Dutch Parliament soon. So far, I have seen that the change of legislation has been approved by Ministry Council, but Ministry Councils do not vote laws. The Dutch Wikipedia article states that the government would like this law to be passed, to ensure that tobacco packages will be plain in July next year. Belguim

[edit]

The law is in force in Belguim in the shops you can find from 1 januari 2020 no more 'Brand Sigarettes'. Can you add this on the map please because I can't find the place to do it my self. Thanks Themanwithnowifi (talk) 13:51, 7 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The law is in force but retailers have one year to sell their stock, that is: until end of 2020. See [3], [4]. Selling branded cigarettes is therefore not forbidden for retailers yet; it is only forbidden for producers. Ydecreux (talk) 04:21, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Color

[edit]

Is red really the appropriate color? It's not a map of an ban.--Aréat (talk) 19:53, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
