That is correct in most cases, but Britain and the United States are perhaps unique in being known by their descriptors, so the UK is never known in French as Grande-Bretagne et Irlande du Nord but as Le Royaume-Uni.

(If ever Parliament crawls out of the eighteenth century and gives the British kingdom an actual name officially, as unofficially in the UK it is named "Britain", then it may end up as a feminine in the French language, though in French "Britain" can hardly be rendered "Bretagne"! Gender of Myanmar

Myanmar is coloured in green (masculine) on the map. But in my experience (French from France), even though people say "le Myanmar", it's more common (in informal speech at least) to refer to that country using its other name, "la Birmanie" (feminine). A count of occurrences of "Myanmar" (37) and "Birmanie" (131) on the French Wikipedia page about that country confirms my intuition. Maybe Myanmar should have green and purple stripes on the map? --TanguyP (talk) 09:53, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
