Description
WILLIAM HENRY SNYDER (American, 1829-1910) MENDING CHORES. Oil on canvas interior scene shows a woman mending a piece of white cloth. She sits in a plank seat Windsor chair next to a Sheraton table covered with green cloth. Her sewing box open with thread and material. Her feet are propped up on a colorful box and the room accessories include a wooden blue pail, iron andiron, fireplace with fire, splint basket with colorful rags, a shelf with salt box and pottery pitcher and a large stirring spoon hung on the wall. Signed lower left "W H Snyder 85". Housed in a magnificent deep and wide gilt gesso decorated frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 18" x 14". PROVENANCE: From a Belfast, Maine home. CONDITION: Craquelure, inpainting, otherwise good. 9-92958 (1,000-2,000)
