Description
English: Watercolor, bodycolor, and gum arabic on paper

7 1/2 X 11 in., 18.5 X 28 cm. Signed, l.l., W HUNT

One of William Henry Hunt's major artistic innovations was the introduction into western art of a new type of background for use in still life paintings. Instead of the traditional background types, including fields of neutral color, table tops, and misty landscapes, Hunt, in his mature style, typically placed the elements of his still life compositions against representations of banks of soil covered with moss, grass, and leaves.
