English: West African flag
West African flag probably Itsekri. A red wool bunting flag with a linen hoist, machine sewn with a rope halyard attached. The design is applied in white fabric with painted details, representing a naked man decapitating another with a sword. The flag was said to have been brought back by Admiral F. W. Kennedy from the 1897 Benin expedition. 'Kennedy' is inscribed on a paper label attached to the rope. Deutsch: Westafrikanische Flagge Westafrikanische Flagge, wahrscheinlich der Itsekri im Nigerdelta. Fahne aus rotem Wolltuch mit einem Leinenstreifen, maschinell genäht und mit einem Seilfall versehen. Das Motiv ist auf weißem Stoff gemalt auf der Fahren angebracht. Es stellt einen nackten Mann dar, der einen anderen mit einem Schwert enthauptet. Die Flagge soll von Admiral F. W. Kennedy von der Benin-Expedition 1897 mitgebracht worden sein. „Kennedy“ steht auf einem Papieretikett, das an dem Seil befestigt ist. |
