English:

The image is in black and white. Half of the image, the foreground and a portion of the middle ground, is composed of dense vegetation with occasional spots of grass and shrubs. Some of the vegetation appears to be tree ferns and ‘ōhi‘a trees. To the right of the center, a road runs through the forest and continues off into the distant, misty background of the photo. In the forest, plumes of steam or smoke rise and blow to the left of the picture. Barren slopes and hills fill the background, lighter and lighter the further into the background they go. Dark diagonal markings, likely tape, are on the upper corners and the lower right corner. A label written on the white border at the bottom of the image reads, "View from front lawn of Volcano House."
