Summary
[edit]DescriptionTrack of the Past.... and Future^ - geograph.org.uk - 1730641.jpg |
English: Thorpe le Street, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Track of the Past.... and Future? Pictured is the trackbed of the former Hull to York Railway. Even though it was making a small operating profit at the time, Dr. Beeching still thought it was a suitable candidate, back in 1965, for his railway 'axe'. Plans are being considered to re-open the line once again, although the bill for this will be near to £200,000,000 I believe. Most of the trackbed throughout its length could be used without much work needing doing on it, but in several of the towns it goes through, buildings have been built on the former line and diversions/compulsory building purchases will be required to get the route re-instated again. Some of the existing bridges are in a poor state of repair too. |
