Description
English: The ship 'Isabella' at sea

This early 19th-century oil painting of a British merchant ship in the English Channel, with Dover behind on the left and the South Foreland to the right, is a typical example of a conventional ship portrait showing the vessel in two or three separate views; in this case of its starboard side and from astern (far right). It had a previously incorrect attributed to John Wilson Carmichael.
