Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe grave stele of Tynnias, 4th cent. B.C.jpg |
English: Grave stele. Pentelic marble. Found in the Piraeus. A bearded man clad in a mantle sits on a chair, holding a staff. The epistyle of the naiskos stele identifies him as Tynnias, son of Tynnon, a native of Trikorynthos, an Attic demos near Marathon. His respectable figure recalls analogous idealistic images of Athenian citizens and gods on the Parthenon frieze. First quarter of the 4th century B.C. Accession Number: 902. National Archaeological Museum of Athens. Athens, Greece. Text credit: Museum inscription. |
