Description
English: This is performance of Sri Lankan traditional dance called the low country "Garayak" dance. Low country garayak dance is a traditional dance form that originated in the southern coastal region of Sri Lanka. It is a highly rhythmic and energetic dance that is performed to the beats of a unique drum called "gara yak bera."

The dance is typically performed by a group of male dancers who wear colorful costumes and masks. The costumes are designed to represent various characters such as demons, animals, and humans. The masks are made of wood and are intricately carved to depict the character being portrayed.

This video was recorded in the final procession of the annual Esala Festival of the historic Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Temple which was held on 11th August 2022 with the participation of a large number of devotees.
