Deutsch: Die Ursprünge der mitochondrien-verwandten Organellen (englisch

, MROs). Ein hypothetisches Szenario für den Erwerb von Enzymen zur anaeroben ATP-Erzeugung und die anschließende Entstehung von MROs.
(1) Erwerb von Enzymen zur anaeroben Energiegewinnung.
(2) Verlust der Fähigkeit zur oxidativen Phosphorylierung.
(3) Verlust verschiedener mitochondrialer Funktionen.
Gelbe Sternchen stehen für die Elektronentransportkette, während rote Sternchen den hydrogenosomalen anaeroben ATP-Sytheseweg darstellen. Die Kreise stellen die mitochondrialen Genome dar.
