Summary

English: A toy tiger made of palm leaf. The limbs of the tiger are made by painting on palm leaves that are dried and pressed. The limbs are tied to each other by cotton threads. A bamboo stick makes up the spine which can be held between two palms to roll. The rolling makes the limbs move in fixed directions and create several dance-like body movements. Such toys are originally from the Indian state of Odisha. The toy used in this video was purchased in 2012 from artisans of Puri, Odisha, India who visited the National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum, New Delhi. |
