Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Global Event: Total Lunar Eclipse

Local Type: Total Lunar Eclipse, in Abu Dhabi Begins: Fri, 27 Jul 2018, 21:14 Maximum: Sat, 28 Jul 2018, 00:21 1.61 Magnitude Ends: Sat, 28 Jul 2018, 03:28 Duration: 6 hours, 14 minutes . The full moon will pass through the Earth's shadow producing a total lunar eclipse for sky-watchers throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa and South America.

In Dubai the Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG) is not planning to set up telescopes for public viewing of this phenomenon, but they will have three teams in Mirdif, Mizher and Riqa conducting professional observations to measure the movement of the Earth's shadow. During a total eclipse the Moon shines with an orange reddish glow. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Full Moon passes through the Earth's shadow. The Moon will encounter the penumbra, the Earth's outermost shadow zone, at 5,51pm GMT; about thirty minutes later slight dusky shading can be noticed on the leading edge of the Moon.

At 6,48pm GMT the Moon begins its entry into the innermost shadow zone, or umbra. For more than an hour a circular shadow creeps across the Moon's face. At 7,52pm GMT the Moon will lie completely within Earth's dark shadow. It will then take on an eerie coppery tint.

Totality will end at 9,08pm GMT, when the moon's leading edge exits the umbra. The moon will leave the umbra completely at 10,12pm GMT, and the eclipse will end at 11,10pm when the moon makes its last contact with the penumbra.
