English: LIBI_00312_10950; Mounted albumen photograph; portrait taken in full length view with subject turned slightly to the right, but facing front. This image is a studio portrait of Hollow Wood, a Lakota Sioux Chief. He is wearing a dark vest over a white shirt and an apron. He has no pants, but is wearing decorated leggings and moccasins. He wears a single feather in his hair. There is a feathered pipe slung across his left hip. A coup stick in his right hand rests on the floor by his right foot. White writing in the center of the image between the subject’s legs reads: “Copyrighted by the N.W. Photo Co Jan 1st [18]91” and “No 18”. Writing along the bottom of the image reads: “Chief Hollow Wood taken at Pine Ridge, S.D.” The information for the NorthWestern Photographic Company is stamped on the verso. This image was created by George E. Trager, circa 1890. It is the original image.
