Summary
[edit]DescriptionStenness Fishing Station Böd.jpg |
English: Stenness is a headland south of Esha Ness, with a community of the same name consisting of a few houses. In years gone by there were more houses and more people, as well as a busy "Haaf" fishing station, the remnants of which can be found, such as the roofless building seen on the shore here. The looming eminence in the background is HU2176 : Dore Holm - The Drinking Horse
Haaf fishing involved boats called sixareens, each with six men and six oars as well as a square shaped sail. They would row and sail up to 50 miles out to sea. |
