Summary
[edit]DescriptionSquire Cheyney Farm.JPG |
English: House at Squire Cheyney Farm on the NRHP since January 11, 2010. At 1255 Cheyney Thornton Road (or just Cheyney Road), Thornbury Township, Chester County (near, but not in, Thornbury Township, Delaware County), across Cheyney Road from Cheyney University. Farm goes back to 1700s. A township historical marker on the edge of the site says that Squire Cheyney informed General Washington during the Battle of Brandywine that the British were flanking him to the north (I avoided the temptation to write "the British are coming"!) Now the approx. 60 acre site is a new township park, but the fields are still used for crops and nothing has apparently been done to restore the buildings. No trails or anything like that on site. |
