Summary
[edit]DescriptionSpittle bug - Bathyllus albicinctus (4133212934).jpg |
Bathyllus albicinctus Spittlebug or Froghopper - Adult These are called spittlebugs because the nymph lives in a mass of froth on a plant stem. The froth prevents the nymph from dehydration and predators. See Save Our Waterways Now for excellent photos. Australian Faunal Directory states that they are common in all states and that at all stages they are xylem feeders. Xylem is the part of the stem that transports water and nutrients for plants. |
