This morning, Chargé d’Affaires Michael Goldman and Fiji Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho signed a Letter of Agreement between the United States of America and the Republic of Fiji to assist the training and deployment of Fijian police peacekeepers to United Nations and regional peacekeeping missions. This U.S. sponsored training will be provided both to the Republic of Fiji's new Formed Police Units and to individual police officers assigned to UN peacekeeping missions. The training, conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), is designed to enhance the Republic of Fiji’s ability to deliver high-quality police peacekeepers to UN and regional missions. In partnership with the Republic of Fiji, trainers will provide technical advice to Fiji’s ability to effectively deploy police peacekeepers (both units and individuals) and to develop pre-deployment training, schedules, logistics, tactics, command, and administration. |
