Summary
[edit]DescriptionShell Hammock Landing Road-04.jpg |
English: One of two views of the dirt road leading to the Shell Hammock Landing, a site on the National Register of Historic Places near Camp Mack, northeast of Lake Wales, Florida. Shell Hammock Road branches off to the northwest of the northwest side of Camp Lester Road and Reese Avenue. The NRHP listed house was built in 1881 and was used as a resting place for steamboat passengers on the Kissimmee River. Unfortunately, this is not only a dirt road, but a private road which required both a four-wheel-drive vehicle and permission to enter the property. The old warning sign evidently pre-dates the 1971 MUTCD requirements, because it's a yellow "road closed" warning sign created before such signs were required to be orange, with a strip of tape reading "BUMP" posted over it. If you zoom in on this road hidden under all the trees, you can even see a red gate blocking the road. |
