Description
Deutsch: Meilerplatz in der Gemeinde Netphen-Walpersdorf im Siegerland, Nordrhein-Westfalen. Nahe der Ortschaft wird nach traditioneller Art Holzkohle in Meilern durch kontrolliertes Abbrennen von jungen Birken-, Eichen- und Buchenstämmen hergestellt. Im Vordergrund ein Kohlenmeiler im Bau, errichtet am Standort und in den Ascheresten seines Vorgängers (Meilerplatz). Dahinter ein ebensolcher Meiler in Betrieb. Am Bildhorizont ein teilweise abgeholzter Hauberg, in dem das für die Herstellung von Holzkohle benötigte Holz geschlagen wird.
English: Two charcoal piles near Walpersdorf, borough of Netphen, a small town in Siegerland, a district of federal state Northrhine-Westphalia, central Germany. The pile in the foreground is under construction, while the second, ignited one is in the process of producing charcoal. The forest in the background is a partly clearcutted Hauberg (which loosely translates into “chopwood”), source of (mostly) young birch and oak trees used in charcoal piles.
