"Das Gemälde gehört zu Rubens' frühen Werken nach seiner Rückkehr aus Italien. Der Bildraum wird ganz von den Figuren im Bildvordergrund beherrscht. Die Szene zeigt den Moment, in dem die Töchter Lots ihren Vater betrunken machen, um sich von ihm schwängern zu lassen (Gen. 18, 30-38). Rubens entschied sich, den Vater keineswegs als Opfer weiblicher Verführungskünste darzustelnne. Vielmehr schildert er ihn als zwar bärtigen, aber kräftigen Mann, der hier aktiv nach der jungen Frau strebt." Das Bild ist etwas größer als der abgebildete Ausschnitt. |
