[edit]DescriptionRoyal Tiger, Catton.jpg |
English: Illustration from Animals drawn from Nature and engraved in aqua-tinta described in a sale catalogue as "[38]p, plates. Contemporary calf, smooth spine, divided into seven panels by gilt double rules, morocco title label to second panel, covers with a gilt roll border, gilt to edges and inner dentelles, spot and veined marbled endpapers. Later re-back, worn to extremities, corners bumped and worn, covers rubbed with a few scrapes. Internally some light foxing to text leaves, plates have been trimmed to image and mounted, now framed within pen and ink and wash borders, with caption titles and numbering in ink. Complete with thirty-six hand-coloured aquatint plates by and after Catton, heightened with white and gum arabic. Previous owners' armorial bookplate to front pastedown (Duke of Gloucester). The book is bound in portrait format, with the text and plates in landscape" |
