Transcript InfoField | English: On front of document: “Waterloo 1mo 22nd 1830 Esteemed Friend I have been looking for a Letter from thee some time, but suppose the pressure of Legislative Business has been such that it has ocupied the time of all the Industrious Members agreeable to agrement I have to Inform thee that the Supervisors of this County Met at Hoskins Tavern on the 12th Instant and agreed to raise the Sum of Three Thousand Five Hundred Dollars for the purpose of purchasing a farm and Building a Poor House. that is we have now in the hands of the Treasurer Twelve Hundred Dollars which was raised by Tax, and Jesse Clark has paid about $360 of the Fines collected by him we have agreed to raise One Thousand Dollars a Year for two Years by Tax which some think will be sufficient But I think we will likely have to raise more before the necessary Buildings are Completed. we also agreed to abolish the distinction between County and Town Poor. making all we also appointed five Superintendents, of the Poor whose [ duty? ] is to Locate and Build the House and take charge of the Poor some of our inhabitants Mostly Officeseekers they and Drs Claudius C Coan Lodi, Antony D Schuyler Ovid are in favour of a division of the County but W Hoskins Fayette, Wm Larzalere Seneca Falls J W Bacon the more reflecting part and a very great majority here are opposed to any division I find some at the south are anxious to dis[cuss?]" On back of document: "a statement of the situation of the accounts which is intended to be laid before the County Judges [if?] Jesse Clark was drawn up which states the Supervisors found that he had not done his duty as district attorney, in a number of Instances, and that he was a defalter which we think a sufficient cause to remove him and pray the court to take it into consideration, to divide the county as well as your town which statement was signed by all except thyself. If thee thinks he ought to be removed please Say so. I would be very glad to hear what is the prospect of the County and whether a division is like to take place or not also how thee feels on the subject To Sam’l Blain Esq.
