English: Portrait by Sir Peter Lely of Mary Capel (1630–1715), later Duchess of Beaufort, and Her Sister Elizabeth (1633–1678), Countess of Carnarvon. Mary and Elizabeth Capel were the sisters of Arthur Capel (1632–1693), first Earl of Essex. This picture was installed in the library of Cassiobury House when it was rebuilt and enlarged in 1677. The portrait was sold with other Cassiobury estate assets in 1922-3 and now hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Deutsch: als Jahr ist 1647 wahrscheinlich, da war Mary 17 Jahre alt. |
