Pair of terracotta volute-kraters (vases for mixing wine and water) with stands |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
Greek, South Italian, Apulian; Volute-krater with stand; Vases; Although these volute-kraters may have been modeled after examples of bronze, they are imposing works in their own right. South Italian vases are often interpreted as having been made for the tomb. Regardless of their final disposition, black-glazed pieces with no evident funerary reference probably first served in life. |
