Description
Svenska: Sannolikt Dowlat Gate, en av stadsportarna till Teheran. Port med kolonner och mosaik. En grusad väg leder fram till den. Utanför porten några träd. I förgrunden en man körandes en hästvagn. (Enligt anteckning under bilden, sannolikt gjord av Sven Hedin, skulle detta vara Shemiran Gate (Schimran), men vid jämförelse med andra bilder verkar detta vara felaktigt. Teherans stadsportar är omdiskuterade. Inga av dem finns kvar idag. På 1800-talet fanns åtminstone 6, troligen fler. Andra namn på Shemiranporten är Derwazèh-i-Chimrân (Darvazeh/Porte de Chimrân).
English: Note: the original description by Sven Hedin, claiming photo shows Shemiran Gate, is certainly wrong because of several reasons:
  • Gate's shape and tiles fit with other historical photographs which are either described by several primary sources or identified as Dowlat Gate (Naser Wall).
  • Shadows toward east fit for Dowlat Gate in late afternoon time, and can not fit for Shemiran Gate by any chance because its inner facade is orientated toward southwest (implying shadows toward southeast which is impossible due to the Alborz position).
  • Perhaps the strongest evidence is another historical photo, available online, which shows the snowy Alborz mountains more clearly and fit for contemporary photos with indisputable south-to-north viewpoint. This again fits only for Dowlat Gate, not Shemiran Gate and its southwest-to-northeast viewpoint.
  • An obvious south-to-north viewpoint (snowy Alborz mountains) indicates that photo shows inner facade (no moat nor bridge) of one of two northern gates, i.e. either Dowlat Gate or Yusef Abad Gate, and the latter is already identified.
