[edit]DescriptionMixed Reality Research (1991-1994) Virtual Fixtures Project.webm |
English: Mixed Reality Research: this short video includes rare clips of the Virtual Fixtures Project conducted Stanford University and Wright Patterson Air Force Base (1991-1994).
The Virtual Fixtures Project was funded by Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) and enabled interactive virtual objects to be spatially registered to the real world in 3D. The project demonstrated for the first time that interactive virtual overlays (now called mixed reality) could be added to the real would, could be engaged by human users, and could enhance human performance in real world spatial tasks. The experiments used a large task board in which metal pegs were moved between holes, with and without the aid of virtual overlays called fixtures. |
