Summary

[edit]
Description Figure 5 Metabolic determinants of the differentiation osteoclasts. Experiments with primary bone marrow macrophages in Relb or Asxl2-deficient mice show that PGC-1β plays a vital role in the mitochondrial biogenesis of osteoclasts. However, in addition to initiating the expression of osteoclasts genes, c-fos-mediated activation of NFATc1 is also required. These indicate that although mitochondrial biogenesis and osteoclasts differentiation are independent processes, both require the production of functional osteoclasts.
