"Im 1854 erstellten Inventar des Museo de la Trinidad wurde das Bildnis als Porträt der Königin Maria Amalia geführt, eine Bestimmung, die dem Vergleich mit Mengs‘ Porträt (Roettgen 1999, Kat. 162) nicht standhält. Auch die von mir vorgeschlagene Identifizierung mit Maria Luisa von Bourbon (Roettgen 1999, Kat. 177) muss revidiert werden. Der Vergleich mit dem seit 1998 bekannten Bildnis der Isabella von Bourbon-Parma (DW_336) lässt keinen Zweifel daran, dass es sich um dieselbe Person handelt. Damit wird die bislang vermutete Identität mit dem im Nachlassinventar von Mengs (1779) aufgeführten „Ritratto della Gran Duchessa da ragazza“ (Roettgen 1999, S. 564) hinfällig. Dennoch ist nicht auszuschließen, dass das Bildnis aus dem römischen Nachlass von Mengs stammt, da die Werke von Mengs, die der Infant D. Sebastian Gabriel besaß, wohl aus dieser Quelle stammten. Der Vermittler seiner Ankäufe in Rom war der Maler José de Madrazo, in dessen Besitz sich 1856 ein weiteres Bildnis der Erzherzogin Isabella befand" (Roettgen 1999, U 167). Dessen Maße (55 x 46 cm) weichen nur geringfügig von denen des hier besprochenen Bildnisses ab. |
